Employees at Nordia's Rouyn-Noranda centre played a big role in supporting the 18th annual telethon of La Ressource pour personnes handicapées de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue/Nord-du-Québec. In addition to raising money in the centre, volunteers also came in on Sunday to call supporters in the region to solicit donations. In total, $10,460 was collected:
- $1,000 from among employees and combined with a corporate donation
- $9,460 from the community
All in all, La Ressource raised over $500,000 to support its work. Many celebrities participated in the event and among those who dropped in to encourage the Nordia volunteers were Boom Desjardins, Wilfred LeBouthillier, Maxime McGraw, Gilles Parent, Mario Peluso and Christian Sbrocca. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this event a success!
Nordia’s participation in the telethon underlines its commitment to the community and making it personal. Last December, Nordia announced a partnership with La Ressource that includes a project to explore job opportunities for disabled persons at Nordia's centre.
